Why Are Tall Boots Called “Hooker Boots”?

Yves Saint Laurent Knee-High Leather Boots

How did knee-length boots get such a bad rep to be referred to as “hooker boots”? Do we have Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman to thank for that?

Interestingly enough, if you Google “hooker boots”, you do get an assortment of thigh-high boot options, stripper websites and the Urban Dictionary’s definition and use of the term in a sentence; “All the girls at school wear hooker boots.” I had to laugh at that.

I think we can all agree that when done right- like to complement a pencil skirt or wrap-dress- tall boots give you a sleek, sophisticated and sexy look; attributes I don’t necessarily associate with a hooker.

  3. I call the ones above the knee “hooker boots,” and I completely blame Pretty Woman. BUT I still want some ;-)
